16 weeks down, 24 to go!

Photography Pictures, Images and Photos

It's photog time!

Starting this week even though I'm already at 16 weeks I'll be cataloging "the look," the baby bump look anyway! Hopefully by the end of this next year I'll have the cutest growing belly movie :)

In about two weeks I'm set up for a round of prenatal tests and hopefully baby t-rex will let us know if she's a she or if he's a he! It's so funny b/c everyone's first question is "What do I want it to be?" and really i'll be happy either way. A princess would allow me the freedom to indulge in ballet classes, slumber parties, buying a ton of girly paisley decor oh an french braids and play dates....two of us to drive daddy & abuelo gaga...I could on and on! But of course my young little prince would also allow me to indulge in being the cheering mom at all his baseball games, track meets and martial arts competitions. Boys look soooo adorable and grown up in any uniform! And as most would say a boy is a mom's best companion and easier to keep close than a developing girl...lol. but I mean it, either would make me so happy.

I swear like most woman I've dreamt since I was at least 6 of how great getting married, having a mansion, convertible & a family of my own would be. And now 20 yrs later the dreams are realized! Thank you God, for you know what you do and in the order you do it.

feeling a little nostalgic and elated right now...I guess that's my cue to use the energy for work at the office!

this is the thing...

BABY ROCKER Pictures, Images and Photos

last year at exactly this same time I can't believe where I was compared to where I am now. The wounds aren't fully healed and sure my heart isn't completely open but I cannot, will not, complain for the greatness that has emerged from such tragedy that is the end of a marriage. As opposed to living alone in a beautiful townhouse with my dog wondering when or if my husband would come home, today I am living in my own apartment with an amazing boyfriend that makes me laugh and just knows when the right moment to be my knight. We're expecting greatness and look forward to the reaping the benefits of our labor. Like I tell myself all the time, patience is a virtue and with a little self control success is inevitable. :)

An article from an old friend for everyone to enjoy and tune in....

"Few were surprised or excited when Vicente del Bosque was named coach of the Spanish national team. His predecessor, Luis Aragones, stepped down after leading a nation of perennial underachievers to the Euro ‘08 crown – Spain’s first major title in over four decades. The style with which that championship was won, all but slotted the Spaniards into the role of prohibitive favorites for South Africa. For Del Bosque, that meant anything less than Spain’s first-ever World Cup trophy would be considered a categorical failure.

In an era where managerial praise is often reserved for perceived dictators like Fabio Capello and Jose Mourinho, Vicente del Bosque’s mild-mannered approach is noteworthy and refreshing – especially considering his predecessor ended Spain’s 44-year title drought with the more popular ‘iron-fisted’ demeanor.

As a club manager, Del Bosque won a pair of Champions League trophies and two league titles with Real Madrid (‘99-’03). But he was shown the door when team president Florentino Perez decided the Galacticos needed a more attractive style and a more marketable coach. When Del Bosque was hired for the Spain job, the immediate question was whether he would employ the tactics that worked for him at Madrid or those that worked for his new players at Euro.

His decision not to shake up the formation and to stick with the 4-3-3 showed that it wasn’t about ego, it was about players. And keeping the nucleus of the European champions happy and in tact allowed what was already working to continue to do so.

Del Bosque made some brave decisions before and during the World Cup, such as leaving veteran midfielder Marco Senna off the squad. It took some serious lip fur to include a young, in-form Pedro and then play him ahead of Fernando Torres in the team’s two most important games. And it was gutsy to insert Jesus Navas in the final, when the Sevilla winger hadn’t played since the second match of the group stage. All the while, Del Bosque managed to instill a sense of confidence, stability and composure in a national team that has been historically criticized for lacking those things on the World Cup stage."

Headache. Stomache. And just plain cranky...grrr...at least it's Thursday!

color splash Pictures, Images and Photos

I wish I had something infinitely interesting to mention today or at least something with purpose, however I got nothing.

I woke up feeling shitty and my boyfriend missed an important meeting. I'm at work; although luckily the office is quiet since the boss' on vacation in Colorado.

Did I mention my clothes are beginning to get tighter and tighter? I'm going to have to literally toss everything and start with a new "multi-purpose" wardrobe. Which is of course why I'm having a personal stylist come over and help this weekend. Frustrating in itself, since the apt isn't fully furnished yet and the kitchen won't be ready until tomorrow and who knows when the refrigerator will arrive. blah. Let me not even get started with the cable and internet. Apparently some server somewhere was down and of course on the day we were "activated" we still didn't get a signal. I love At&t. I do.

Anyway, let me tell you, I thought 26 was a difficult age to figure out, but surely 27 is much worse. I hope I have this whole thing figured out by the time I'm thirty. Wow. Thirty....it's only 3 yrs away. On that note, I'm outta here folks.

I'm Back, again!

That's right, I'm back!

After a short conversation at a friend's shop party we got to talking about blogs and someone remembered I had one. funny, I even forgot. I know, sorry aboutkarla.com, you know I love you.

Anywho...plenty has happended since Feb, including a my 27th birthday last month, a new job closer to home, a new home close to home (lol) and still an amazing man in my life! We planned and booked a trip to sail from Miami to Spain however, we've had a sudden, ahem, unexpected surprise since then and had to cancel the trip. So, in lieu of said trip i'm sure our ride will be fun & interesting nonetheless!

Talk to you soon lovers!

i'm a little teapot...

So here's the thing, I'm not literally a teapot. But I am a Gemini and often times our "airy and light" attitude and perspective turns very quickly into a volatile and destructive gust of wind and we either internalize and become harmful to ourselves or explode the rage onto others. I'm caught in between both feelings today. Don't judge or blame me.

It's a Monday.

words i heard on tv...

So while watching the tail end of Private Practice tonight one of the female doctors said, "every girl thinks, 'all I want is to meet the right guy, have his kids and fall in love. But what we neglect to realize is that we have to be specific...the right guy has to be older than 15 (she said something about his kids) and stay in love. It's the stay in love part...that's the part we forget.'"
So true.

Haiti Earthquake...and this morning's aftershock.

art Pictures, Images and Photos

Dear Friends,

I'm an Earth Sciences major (w/ Education track) at FIU and when most of the news we're getting is filtered through the same (or similar) media lens I'd like to offer another, more technical view from an email sent by Dr. Grenville Draper to all Earth Sciences students the morning of the massive Haiti Earthquake on Wednesday, January 13, 2010:

The Haiti earthquake occurred on the Plantain Garden-Enriquillo Fault zone that stretches between Jamaica in the west to central Hispaniola in the east. This, like the San Andreas Fault zone, is a strike-slip fault meaning that the motions on the fault are horizontal and the structural blocks on either side are moving past each other, rather than up or down.

Unlike the San Andreas it is NOT the main fault between two plates (Caribbean and North America) but a subdsidiary one. The rate of accumulation of strain in this area i less than 20mm per year (slow) so that large 'quakes occur separated by large intervals of time. The last comparable 'quake was in this area was in 1755.

I actually mapped the western extent of this fault for my doctorate. I crossed the eastern part of it only two weeks ago.

A magnitude 7 earthquake this close to a heavily populated area is a major disaster and I fear the worst.

Grenville Draper
Prof. of Geology,
Associate Director of Liberal Studies
Fellow of the Geological Society,
Fellow of FIU Honors College

A second email was sent this morning by Dr. Draper, seen here.

There was a 6.1 aftershock in Haiti this morning.

Details at http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/recenteqsww/Quakes/us2010rsbb.php
There is also a video of me explaining the earthquake at http://news.fiu.edu/2010/01/for-fiu-professor-haiti-earthquake-is-tragic-but-not-unexpected/
And if you simply can't get enough of me, [ ;-) ]I am giving a seminar about the origin of the Earth in the Werthaim Conservatory at 5pm today.

GD

There you have it, a professional's inside look at Earthquakes. Not to be replaced by the loss of lives in Haiti.

May my thoughts and prayers send comfort and relief in my absence.

Dear MOL,

gustav klimt Pictures, Images and Photos

So get this- I'm randomly going through my facebook friends and realized my mother in law is still on there. I also imagine that by her last status update on 1/6/10 she knows i'm on her friends list....b/c I get the sneaking suspicion the comment was geared to me. And as all things in life are, if you're meant to get a message - YOU WILL.

So without further delay, the status update read, "Thank God my son is finally moving on. But remember what goes around comes around." Of course the first thought that crosses my mind is obviously, "well that's good news, he took the plea deal..." Then I catch the second line again about "what goes around comes around" and again she is absolutely correct, except where she thinks that i'm the one getting the "comes around part" she's a bit mistaken and I am more than glad to clear this up right here and now.

Dear MOL,
I loved your son more than I ever believed to have loved anyone else. He brought out my strengthes, supported my weaknesses and provided stability. He made sure I was always taken care of and at the time, I thought he was the love of my life. We fought like any other couple and made love more than any couple. I married him without hesistation or resignation. I took your family name and embraced your family as if it were my own from birth. However, what I failed to see after some time behind those rose colored glasses was that your son did not love me in the same way and despite the fact that he loved me, he wasn't "in love" with me. Plain and simple, he fell out of love with life. Whether you know it or not, I lived alone in our house for over a month hoping he would come back. Praying he'd remember I was his family. I didn't sleep. I barely ate and I lost a lot of weight. And when he didn't come back I let go.

THEN after several weeks came a break in the clouds and I caught my breath again. I embraced my future and I moved forward. And by taking that step an old friend help put back the pieces your son did such a good job of pulling and tearing apart. Your son and I may not have worked out, but there's no need to push negativity in anyone's way b/c you're blind to who your son is. The incident in August wasn't the first, it was simply the last. He has a history of violence and unfaithfulness and TRUST ME this plea deal is the best chance he had from the start and instead of trying to lie to make me look like the agressor he should've taken responsibility like a man for his actions. Shit, he would've been done by now. But you can't see that I imagine. B/c he's your baby and i'm the bitch who pressed charges. What can I say, "It is what it is." If you had a daughter you would understand.

So again, I agree with you "what goes around, does come around." However, I should remind you that he was the one who hit me and left me on the floor, so for his sake I hope he can defend himself better than I ever could.

Lastly, I'm not angry or feel threatened; in fact I'm grateful for your little note b/c YOU finally gave me the forum to speak my mind.

Sincerely,

KM

Twenty-ten is Present!

Call to Action!! 2010 is 5 days old today...

So at the (fairy) tale end of twenty-oh-nine I hung out with my fam for a bit then started to get ready for our NYE dinner/party with some new friends and some old friends for an Italian feast like no other! Thanks to Becky and Jennifer's planning and chef Pops we had 3 huge baked zitis, wine and tons of booze to go around and lots more goodies. (pics to come)

As for the rest of the night (from what I vaguely remember) the new year began with fireworks, sparklers and bombs! That's right our guys brought ear blisteringly loud bombs to the NYE party at our friends house; not to mention we also rang in the new year with 2 dozen delicious Irish Car bombs AND strawberry sliced PJ Rose AND Moet Rose AND Black AND whatever else you could imagine was going around at midnight and of course I can't forget the traditional 12 white (green) grapes...heaven.

We danced, we laughed like crazy. We talked the house of you know what. Some of us were even promised children and marriage in the coming years by Italian fathers and well others (presumably me) may have taken a nap, missed a whole mess of people BUT woke up refreshed like 2 hours later! LOL

All in all twenty-ten is already an incredibly promising year for most and thankfully stock-filled with travel thanks to my "maleta" and i'm sure lots more interesting news will follow....
